This article explains the best practices for installing and positioning your MOVUS Gateway to ensure optimal performance.
How Does It Help You?
The MOVUS Gateway provides a dedicated network for FitMachines, allowing them to connect even in areas where industrial WiFi is unavailable or does not reach, without relying on the customer's existing WiFi network.
Correct installation and positioning of your gateway are crucial for ensuring reliable communication and optimal coverage for your FitMachines.
How to Install Your Gateway
Choosing a Good Gateway Location
- Power Source: Ensure your chosen location is within 1 metre of an active power outlet (100 - 240V).
- Cellular Reception: Install the gateway where there is strong cellular reception. You can use your mobile phone to check the signal strength in the area.
- Proximity to FitMachines: Position the gateway centrally relative to your FitMachines. Ideally, gateways should be installed within 10-20 metres of each FitMachine. For best results, install the gateway at a higher location with a clear, unobstructed line of sight to the FitMachines, as this can extend coverage up to 100 metres. Note that coverage may be significantly reduced in congested areas like plant rooms.
Safety Considerations Before Installation
Before installing the gateway, ensure you follow all safety protocols:
- Personal Protective Equipment: Wear high-visibility clothing, safety boots, safety glasses, and ear protection.
- Slips, Trips, and Falls: Ensure the installation area is well-lit and clear of obstacles.
- Confined Spaces: Adhere to confined space procedures and training requirements.
- Working at Heights: Follow all procedures and training for working at heights.
- Moving Equipment: Ensure all machines have safety guards installed. If not, inform your onsite manager before proceeding.
- Loose Equipment: Use a secure mounting method and additional straps if necessary.
- Cables: Keep all cables tagged, neat, and out of the way.
Installing Your MOVUS Gateway
To install your MOVUS Gateway, follow these steps:
- Attach the Antennas: Match the antennas' labels with the ports on the gateway. Attach the magnet rail to the back of the gateway if you plan to mount it using magnets.
- Connect to Power: Plug the gateway into a general power outlet (GPO). The gateway will power on in about a minute, indicated by a green light on the front.
- Check Gateway Functionality: Ensure the gateway is working correctly with the power outlet. If everything is functioning as expected, proceed with mounting the gateway safely with antennas pointing down.
MOVUS has two different Gateway types. Please find the kind you have and follow the step by step instructions below.
