This article outlines how to best respond to MOVUS alarms. This includes what to do for the different alarm notifications and what to look for on the dashboard.
How can it help you?
Knowing how to appropriately respond to MOVUS Alarms is important to ensure you and your team can accurately triage alerts and make the most out of your MOVUS system.
For instance, prompt responses to alarms can ensure you prevent further damage, either to that equipment or secondary damage to other equipment, and allow you to plan any required maintenance work or downtime prior to equipment failure.
What to do with MOVUS Alarms
There are three types of alarm notifications, Yellow Advisories, Red Alerts, and Measured Data Alarms.
Upon receiving any type, it's important that you investigate. However, the best practice actions differ in each case. This article outlines how to respond to each.
Firstly, it's important to understand that alarms can be sent for any variation in an equipment's condition. For example, there are instances where the MOVUS AI responds to an operational change (such as the machine processing a different substance) rather than a behaviour change (such as an equipment failure), or the FitMachine sensor may have trained on non-running data. This is why, for any alert, we recommend you look at the Equipment's Detail Page first. Viewing this page will help you understand the data coming from the FitMachine sensor and what triggered the alarm. Hence, understanding what you are likely to find when you get to the equipment is critical in planning appropriate resources.
To verify what the data on your dashboard indicates, recommendations for your next actions are below:
The following responses are based on the assumption that your system is appropriately maintained in terms of learning, running cut-off, and so forth. You can learn how to do so in our article, How to Prevent False Alarms.
Measured Data Alarms
Condition Alarms
Red Alerts
For red alerts, we recommend physically inspecting the equipment soon after looking at the data on the dashboard to get a more complete picture of why the deviation occurred. However, in some cases, this may not be appropriate. The flowchart below outlines how to determine when an inspection is necessary.
Yellow Advisories
The change in yellow advisories is not as significant to the AI as a red alert.
In response to an advisory, we generally recommend keeping an eye on the equipment's data on the dashboard and using that to determine if a physical inspection is necessary. However, in some cases, alternate action may be needed. The flowchart below outlines how to determine what response should be taken.
Look for a step change in the condition or overall vibration data with no previous trending. This is generally a sign of either the FitMachine Moved or a production/ops change. Rarely do we see these changes correspond to an event, and if they do, they’re serious.
Please note that the MOVUS alarm system is not a replacement for a more detailed Vibration Analysis, and the data should be validated and further investigated if you deem it necessary.
In rare cases, false alarms can be triggered due to installation issues. Please read our article about Fitmachine Sensor Installation if you believe this is the case or get in touch with MOVUS support here.
In all cases, updating the alarm's status and using our Event Feedback feature to add comments and communicate your colleagues is a great way to track the progression of the alarm and capture all relevant information about an event in one place.
