This article outlines what to do if you wish to move a sensor to a new piece of equipment.
How can it help you?
If, after a FitMachine has been installed, you are no longer interested in monitoring that piece of equipment, it is possible to reuse your sensor and move it to a different piece of equipment instead. This is useful to ensure you make the best possible use of your FitMachine fleet.
Please note that we do not recommend relocation unless absolutely necessary, so please ensure you select your equipment carefully before installation and do not rely on relocation.
How does it work?
To relocate a FitMachine, you will need to:
- Physically move the FitMachine sensor
- Update the FitMachine's network details and run a network check
- Restart the FitMachine's learning period
- Review the equipment's running cut-off one week after relocation, and
- Update the equipment's metadata.
For steps 1 & 2, you will need to be next to the FitMachine, but you can complete steps 3-5 from your office. However, you will need to supply Equipment Images as part of step 5.
Moving the Sensor
To move the FitMachine sensor, you need to detach the FitMachine from its current equipment and re-install the sensor on the new equipment you wish to monitor.
The FitMachine is attached using a rare earth magnet and has a 25kg pull strength, so please be careful when detaching and re-installing that you don't injure yourself.
Please read our article About FitMachine Sensor Installation to ensure your sensor is re-installed correctly.
Updating the Sensor's Network Details
Since the sensor has been moved, you will need to run a network check to ensure your FitMachine is still communicating with your dashboard.
If the sensor has been moved significantly, you may also need to update the gateway or WiFi network it is connected to.
Our article How to do a Network Check outlines how and where to make both of these changes.
Restarting the FitMachine's Learning Period
Once you have re-installed your FitMachine, you will need to restart the sensor's learning period. During the learning period, FitMachine learns what the piece of equipment's "normal" running state is so that it can detect variances from this ''normal'' state as the equipment runs.
Thus, restarting the learning period will ensure your FitMachine isn't comparing new samples against your old equipment's "normal" state.
Please read our article Restart Learning of a FitMachine to do so.
Review the Sensor's Running Cut-Off (RCO)
One week after you have relocated your FitMachine, you will need to review the sensor's running cut-off and ensure it is accurate.
The running cut-off assists the AI in separating running samples from ambient noise and vibration. The running cut-off must be correctly set for the learning process to be completed properly. Otherwise, the "normal" running operation that has been learned will not be an accurate representation of your equipment.
You can learn more about the RCO here and how to adjust it here.
Set a reminder in your calendar or diary to ensure you don't forget!
Editing the Equipment's Metadata
Next, you will need to edit your equipment's details on the dashboard so your FitMachine doesn't still appear to be monitoring your old equipment. You will need to update the equipment's:
- Site Details
- Equipment Details
- Location, and
- Equipment Images.
You can do so on the equipment's detail page. To learn how to edit the equipment, please read our article How to Edit an Equipment's Details.
There is no need to change the equipment's MAC address. This remains the same.
